More

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is a fast-growing association of patients, family members and medical professionals committed to finding a way to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension, and to provide hope for the pulmonary hypertension community through support, education, advocacy and awareness. Pulmonary hypertension is a life-threatening illness described as high blood pressure in the lungs, and affects people of all ethnic backgrounds and ages, although PH most often afflicts young women in the prime of their lives.

The Meetings Planner internship offers students a structured experience working with PHA’s staff and constituents to assist in planning for PHA’s 9th International PH Conference in June 2010, the largest pulmonary hypertension meeting in the world. This critical support will enable us to provide a quality meeting experience to the 1,300 patients, caregivers and medical professionals who attend this event.

Interns will:

  • gain valuable experience in the field of meetings and events planning
  • assist with meeting details including tracking registration, following-up with speakers to ensure that all bios and release forms are accounted for, and planning meeting space setups and menus
  • help coordinate marketing efforts for PHA’s 9th International PH Conference in June 2010
  • contact hotels to inquire about meeting space for future events
  • help organize and prepare PHA materials to be shipped to meetings
  • assist with coordinating travel logistics for event speakers and PHA staff
  • answer constituents’ questions regarding Conference 2010
  • complete other projects as assigned by the Associate Director of Meetings & Conference Planning
  • receive a small stipend and free parking

You will be treated as a respected team member. Our office is a friendly and welcoming environment. If you would like to design a project that helps you meet your educational goals, we will work with you to achieve this.

Interns should:

  • have an interest in meeting and events planning
  • have solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, additional computer ability is a plus
  • be able to organize information and document results for future reporting
  • be able to think creatively and strategically, as well as multi-task
  • posses strong oral and writing skills, as well as the ability to work well with a team
  • be prepared to work in a fast-paced, professional office setting

We offer both part-time and full-time internships. Please be prepared to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week. Interns may also earn college credit. Our office is located in downtown Silver Spring, Md., and is Metro accessible.
