Rino is PHA's President. Besides direct management of the association, his responsibilities include planning, program development and fundraising. Rino oversees three departments: Advocacy and Awareness, International Services, and Finance. Adrienne Dern became PHA’s first Vice President in April 2006. In that role, she manages PHA’s Development, Volunteer Services, Print Services and Administrative Support departments. She also works closely with the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee.
Sherrie Borden is PHA’s Vice President for Medical and Patient Education. She manages the Medical Services Department, Meetings Planning, and Internet and IT Services. She is responsible for the implementation of PHA’s Medical Education Fund programs and has oversight of PHA’s journal, Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension. She works with members of the Scientific Leadership Council. Sherrie is a Physician Assistant and previously worked for several nonprofit health care organizations. She looks forward to helping PHA pursue its mission and vision.
As the Advocacy and Awareness Associate, Nathan coordinates PHA's media efforts. Through the grassroots campaign, PHAware, Nathan supports PH community members as they share their story with the media. He monitors press coverage on an ongoing basis and is the first point of contact for press inquiries. Nathan is also responsible for the Our Journeys project and serves as PHA's insurance advocate.
Advocacy and Awareness Associate, Margaret Beardsworth, serves as PHA's insurance advocate. She is the first point of contact for questions and comments about the insurance portion of PHA's website. In addition, she gathers patients' stories about their insurance challenges in order to help shape PHA's insurance policy agenda. Finally, Margaret works closely with PHA's medical and corporate partners in efforts to raise awareness about PH among insurance payors.
As Patient Outreach and Services Manager, Emma will collaborate with members of the PH community to expand and enhance programming among defined populations of PH patients and caregivers. In this role, she will work to build direct pathways between these populations and PHA to identify the specific interests of these groups and facilitate the development of networks and resources to better serve their needs.

many mailings and other tasks. Dorothy has seen PHA
through many of its changes.
As Assistant to the President, Amanda works to maintain effective communication with the PHA Board members and supporters. She also manages PHA's educational grants.
In conjunction with each International PH Conference, PHA offers a scholarship program for patients who are in need of financial assistance to attend. As Conference Scholarship Coordinator, Jennie Carman facilitates the application process, liaises with the Conference Scholarship committee and manages the needs of scholarship recipients attending Conference.
As PHA's Director of Volunteer Services, Debbie is charged with the sustenance
and expansion of the volunteer spirit within PHA.
This includes working with support group leaders and
special events volunteers.
PHA is pleased to work in connection with associations around the world to serve PH patients, their families, doctors and medical researchers. As the Associate Director of International Services, Christine Dickler works to facilitate the international exchange of reliable information and promote global awareness of the disease. Her work includes administering and promoting PHA’s international seed grant program, coordinating the translation efforts of PHA’s materials, and establishing relationships with PH organizations abroad. Christine previously worked as PHA’s Publications Manager.
As Medical Education Program Associate, Christa focuses on the education programming offered by the PHA to medical professionals, especially the PHA Online Universityand the Scientific Sessions held during PHA's International PH Conference. In addition, she facilitates the development and growth of PHA's membership section for physicians and Ph.D.- level researchers, PH Clinicians and Researchers. Christa also provides support on different activities related to PH Resource Network and the Scientific Leadership Council.
As PHA’s Online Community Liaison, Kathryn is working to create a welcoming atmosphere online and a connection between the online community and PHA. She helps our online community connect with PHA resources, get involved in PHA activities, and feel like they are a part of the PHA family. She handles administrative duties for message boards, e-mail listservs and chats. Each week she locates a resource on the website to feature in "Things I Found on PHA's 10,000 Page Website." She also pitches in when needed for website editing and updating.
As a Medical Services Program Associate, Roice supports the development of the PH Resource Network, PHA’s professional network for allied health care professionals working within the field of pulmonary hypertension. He promotes peer outreach to front-line medical personnel facing the unique challenges of providing care for PH patients. As a member of the Medical Services team, he also assists the initiatives of other professional networks supported by PHA.
Greg is PHA’s Grants Coordinator and is charged with managing our Support Group Central Fund and Special Events Central Fund Grant Programs. Through the fund, he coordinates with and provides financial assistance to our network of over 200 patient support groups as well as provides sponsorship of locally organized Special Events promoting education and awareness of PH in communities.
As Director of Web Services, Diane manages the PHA website and web services. She is working to make PHAssociation.org a more effective tool for PH patients, families, and medical professionals to connect and share resources.
As a Meetings Planning Associate, Carsten manages the logistics of the Corporate Committee meetings as well as the biannual meetings of PH Resource Network Executive Committee, Scientific Leadership Council and Board of Trustees. Carsten is also responsible for aspects of PHA’s PH Resource Network Symposium and International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions, such as vendor management and the development of promotional materials handed out.
Patty is PHA’s Finance and HR Manager. Her responsibilities include processing accounts payable, handling benefits administration, supervising the Administrative Assistant, and generally assisting the Director of Finance with matters relating to finance and HR.
As Development Associate, Jennifer works to implement programs that foster support for PHA, its programs, services and research agenda. Jennifer coordinates Our Workplace Has a Heart, which features PHA’s myriad workplace giving programs, including the Combined Federal Campaign, and In Honor of Our Lives, PHA’s program to include PH awareness and fundraising in celebration of personal milestones. Jennifer is also the contact for the Sustainer’s Circle, PHA’s monthly giving program. In conjunction with the other members of the development team, Jennifer answers donor and member inquiries.
As Patient Education Program Associate, Emily works within the Medical Services department to support the development of educational programs for PH patients. Emily’s role focuses primarily on the development of PHA on the Road, the PH Patients and Families Education Forum. Emily also works to assist the Medically Led Sessions Committee of the SLC and she supports other patient focused initiatives within the Medical Services department. Emily maintains a strong commitment to educating PH patients.
As PHA's Administrative Assistant, Marie is the first point of contact for members, donors, patients, and the general public. In addition to providing general administrative support to the staff, she assists both the Finance and Development departments with processing donations and requests for information, materials, and merchandise.
Katie is PHA’s Director of Advocacy and Awareness. Katie coordinates PHA’s grassroots advocacy efforts, including the 435 Campaign. She maintains online action alerts, manages the advocacy listserv and provides patients and supporters with tools and resources to build successful relationships with their elected officials. Katie is the first point of contact for information about PH Awareness Month in November, the Pulmonary Hypertension Research Act, the Congressional Luncheon and the PH Resource Network Lobby Day.
As Associate Director of Meetings and Conference Planning, Doreen assists with the activities of the Meetings Planning Department, which is involved in a variety of exciting events and public health education projects. Doreen’s primary responsibilities include the coordination of logistics and marketing for the new education program for patients – PHA On The Road: PH Patients & Families Education Forum.
As Publications Manager, Megan serves as PHA's primary writer, editor, and graphic designer for PHA promotional materials and print publications. She also coordinates the production and publication of PHA's newsletters and other print materials.
As PHA’s Associate Director of Development, Jillian works to implement development programs that foster support for PHA. Programs include membership and annual giving, major donor support and foundation grant-seeking. In conjunction with the other members of the development team, Jillian works to implement direct-mail solicitations and conduct donor cultivation and other development-related activities. Jillian is also the contact for PHA’s Circle of Friends program.
As PHA’s Special Events Manager, Jessica works closely with volunteers as well as friends and family of PH patients to plan fundraisers across the country. By offering advice, guidance, and materials, Jessica provides volunteer coordinators with support they need to make their event a success. She also creates new special event campaigns, programs and resources, making a variety of special event opportunities available to the PH community.
Donica is PHA's Associate Director of Medical Services. She works on the development of
the two medical sections of PHA, PH Clinicians and Researchers (PHCR) and PH Resource Network and also supports the activities of
the Scientific Leadership Council.
Jessica is PHA’s Office Operations Manager. In addition to helping out and overseeing the administrative staff, Jessica is responsible for overseeing the office space, maintenance and purchase of office equipment and managing a variety of internal office procedures.
Patty is PHA's Director of Finance. She has a degree in finance and over 10 years of accounting experience. She is responsible for financial reporting, accounting systems, budget and audit coordination, payroll and human resource administration.
As the Meetings & Conference Planning Department’s Marketing Communications Associate, Alicia oversees marketing and promotional efforts for a number of PHA events including PH Resource Network Symposium, PHA on the Road and PHA’s biennial International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions. Alicia is also responsible for oversight of PHA’s Building Medical Education in PH program.
As Database Manager, Keisha is charged with administering PHA’s 30,000+ database. Keisha focuses on overseeing the daily data entry, maintaining the integrity of the information that is stored, and processing gifts and memberships to PHA. Her duties also include oversight of staff training on database usage and developing the database into the staff’s go-to source for information.
Carol is an advisor to the Medical Services Department and works with the PH Resource Network, PH Clinicians and Researchers and the Scientific Leadership Council. She works to promote public-private partnerships in the support of research, conferences, training and education.
