Why raise awareness about PH? People cannot create change if they don’t know there is a problem. If the PH community doesn’t tell others about PH, no one will. Together we can raise awareness about PH and involve our communities in finding a cure.

There are only 1,937 TV stations and networks and 1,456 daily newspapers in the U.S. PHA has 7,500 members! If each of us contacted our local media outlets to share our PH story, we could ensure that every media outlet knows about PH and is able to share that information with its audience. Do your part to start raising awareness about PH today and join PHAware! It’s easy to do with step-by-step guidelines, tips and samples. PHA will even send you materials and press kits to support your efforts.

Help put a face on PH and educate your community about PH by offering your story or the story of a loved one for publication or air coverage.

letter writerLetter to the Editor
A letter to the editor is an easy, effective way to get information on PH published. Smaller community papers tend to publish a high percentage of the letters they receive, so targeting local papers is a good strategy.

editorOp-Ed
Submitting an op-ed piece to your local paper is another way to get your message in the media. You can explain the PH community’s goals and needs in an op-ed and gain a wide audience and increased awareness.

news releaseNews Release
News releases are targeted at a broad audience when you want to get basic information out. For example, if you have an event and would like people to know about it, you could write a news release and send it to local media outlets.

radioRadio Public Service Announcement (PSA)
Although radio stations are no longer required to air public service announcements (PSAs), many still do. This is a great way to raise awareness throughout the listening area.
