Golfers Make Green for the Ninth Consecutive Year

The Houston/Woodlands annual golf tournament was once again a great success! The “Ninth Annual Cure PH” Golf Tournament and Auction proved that golfers never tire of coming out to support a great cause. The event, organized by former PHA Board Chair, Jack Stibbs, along with assistance from our wonderful committee and faithful volunteers, took place April 27, 2007 at Cypresswood Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
We hosted 205 golfers and over 250 for the after-golf dinner, raffle and live and silent auctions. We once again set our goal to help PHA fund one research fellow by raising $68,000, but that goal turned out to be quite modest. To date, thanks to the generosity of our many donors, sponsors and volunteers, this year’s Houston/Woodlands golf tournament netted approximately $120,000.
“Generosity was the word of the day,” according to PHA Vice President Adrienne Dern, who attended the event. “From planning to clean-up, so many people gave their time to make the event a huge success. And the generosity of those who contributed and bought the auction items — from wine packages to golf carts — spoke to the big-heartedness of the Houston community in support of this annual event,” she explained.
It was an enjoyable day for all. We greatly appreciate the support from the golfers, volunteers and sponsors who are so committed to helping raise funds forresearch and awareness each year. We applaud YOU!
Michelle Sweitzer, daughter of Jerry & Betty Lou Wojciechowski said,
“Shortly after my dad passed away, I decided that we should have a golf tournament in his memory and to raise funds for PH research. As soon as I told my mom she jumped on the idea and contacted Jack Stibbs, “The Pro,” as she called him. He invited us to his tournament in Houston. The event was amazing and everything seemed to work like a well-oiled machine. Matacha and the Stibbs led us through all the ins-and-outs of their event and assured us that though it is a lot of work, it is well worth it. By the end of the day we were convinced that this was what we needed to do in Southern California. ... If our event is even half as successful as theirs, we will have achieved our goals.”
