Special Events - Minnesota PH Support Group Picnic

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the Minnesota Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group Annual Picnic on August 20. Organized for PH patients, caregivers, family members and medical staff at the Battle Creek Park in Maplewood, Minnesota, guests of honor included Debbie Castro from the Pulmonary Hypertension Association in Silver Spring, MD; Dr. Michael
McGoon from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; and Dr. Monica Colvin-Adams, from the University of Minnesota PH Clinic. Dr. McGoon brought his son and Dr. Colvin-Adams her husband and daughter, adding to the family environment and fun!

With much humor and energy, Larry and Karen Moody took their turns at the microphone as the support group’s Masters of Ceremony. The food was catered by Tinuicci’s Restaurant— as always, excellent food and excellent service.

Everyone had a great time; there were a lot of door prizes and everyone who attended received a stainless-steel coffee mug printed with the periwinkle awareness ribbon, PHA logo, and support group name.

What a good way to get the PH awareness out there to the public! Each year the support group tries to focus on two big celebrations—the PH picnic and the PH holiday party. That is the time we set aside to have some fun and enjoy the friendships that have grown in this group. We have monthly support group meetings, which focus on support, awareness and education. The picnic is always a fun gathering and it was made possible because of sponsorship from Accredo Therapeutics, United Therapeutics, and CoTherix.
