Diving in to Make a Difference:
One special 13-year old’s fundraiser for friend David Rocco
A letter from Linda Rocco, mom of patient and transplant survivor, David Rocco; PHA’s Caregiver of the year in 2004 and long-time PH and PHA special events volunteer.
Hi Debbie,
I wanted to make you aware of another fundraiser that took place in honor of my son, David Rocco. You probably received the information and check in the mail this past week from Connor Kuremsky. Connor is 13 years old, and dives with my daughter, Diana, for the University of Pittsburgh Aquatic Club. Their club sponsored a regional meet at the University of Pittsburgh's "Trees Hall", where he sold "sammys" that he tie-dyed and sold for $20/each, to raise money for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, in honor of David. As a result, he raised $869.00! (Divers use sammys, instead of towels to dry themselves off.)
Connor is not only a thoughtful, kind and all-around great kid, he is also a very talented and awesome diver. He has competed at the national level, as well as traveled to China and England to compete with some of the best divers in the world from his age group…
Thank you,
Linda
P.S. David is 10 months post transplant and is doing wonderful! He graduated from high school in June and is off to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (close to his doctors) to study Industrial Design. It's truly a miracle!
P.S.S. My family is sponsoring another golf outing August 20, and the proceeds this year are going to PHA, Allegheny General Hospital's PH research center and C.O.R.E.
