Sometimes patients just want to have fun!
Thats what nearly fifty patients and family members
did in Wichita, Kansas on June 11, 2005 at the Wichita
Wranglers Baseball game thanks to their generous
sponsor, Accredo Therapeutics. Newly diagnosed members
and long-term survivors alike exchanged stories and contact
information during the all-you-can-eat buffet before the
game. Patients were encouraged to wear PHA shirts, pins,
and awareness bands. Dr. Steven Trombold from the Wichita
Clinic attended as did Helen Malloy, Cardiopulmonary Nurse
Specialist from Accredo. It was a beautiful evening after
a week of threatening rain and concluded with a fireworks
display. We are certainly a tight group with many
patients who love to reach out to others, said PHA
support group leader, Christie Breault. Patients
were discussing everything but the game! Before the night
was over, I had one member planning a walk-a-thon, another
asking how she could get involved with answering the 800
number, and a few more asking about contact information
on PAH doctors. It was quite a successful event.
