The PH Insurance Mission: Preparing for a Successful Insurance Campaign

Working with insurance companies to get coverage for critical tests and PH therapy can be an uphill battle, whether you are a PH patient or PH-treating medical professional. Fortunately, there are resources to help you advocate for PH therapy coverage.

In this webinar, Toni Heininger, Health Project Coordinator at University of Rochester, and Margaret Beardsworth, PHA’s Insurance Program Manager, highlight common insurance problems and tips for confronting and educating insurance companies.

Both PH patients and allied health professionals are encouraged to watch this webinar.

Toni Heininger graduated from SUNY Geneseo in December 2006 and began working for Dr. Jim White and Karen Frutiger, RN at the University of Rochester Pulmonary Hypertension Program in February 2007. She coordinated the first Rochester Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group and continues to be an active participant in those meetings. She is currently a Health Project Coordinator at University of Rochester and continues to be passionate about PH and most importantly the wonderful patients she is able to help and work with everyday.

As PHA’s Insurance Program Manager, Margaret is the first point of contact for questions and comments about the insurance portion of PHA's website. In addition, she gathers patients' stories about their insurance challenges in order to help shape PHA's insurance policy agenda. Finally, Margaret works closely with PHA's medical and corporate partners in efforts to raise awareness about PH among insurance payers.
