Cardiac Catheterization in Pediatric PH Patients

Right heart cardiac catheterization is considered the “gold standard” for pulmonary hypertension diagnosis. In this presentation, Dr. Hirsch will review the need for cardiac catheterization, describe the course of a standard procedure and the therapeutic drug testing that happens during the catheterization, and discuss the risks associated with cardiac catheterization for pediatric patients.

Dr. Hirsch is the director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Pulmonary Hypertension Service in the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
He has spoken at national and international meetings on topics relating to cardiac catheterization in children and adolescents with pulmonary hypertension.  He has a specific clinical and research interest in infants with pulmonary hypertension related to congenital diaphragmatic hernia and chronic lung disease.
