Clinical Trials

Title of Study:
Exercise Echocardiograms in Scleroderma

Description:
This study will determine if exercise echocardiograms can add additional, more sensitive measures to predict Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT) in scleroderma. The identification of patients at the highest risk for serious PHT will allow us to pursue controlled trials with endothelin receptor antagonists, calcium channel blockers, or phosphodiesterase agents. This study gives a clearer understanding of the evolution from early PHT to serious PHT so that treatment can be started at the best time. In future years, as these newer agents for treating PHT become available, we will then be able to develop clinical trials to completely prevent or alter the course of serious PHT.
