The 2006 Conference, "Roadmap to a Cure," was the best attended in PHA's history, with over 1,100 registrants from 21 nations. In 2006, PHA was able to offer scholarships to more than 120 patients in need. As a result, PHA's 7th International Conference, was not only bigger than ever, it was also more inclusive, attracting patients who would otherwise not have been able to attend on their own.

The agenda was packed with educational information in the form of medically led sessions, patient and family-led sessions and support group meetings. Some favorites included Basic Research in PH: The Door to New Therapies; Living with a Chronic Illness; and Exercise & PH.

The 2006 Conference was about making connections and having fun too. Attendees enjoyed the PH Fashion Show, as well as an informal message board meet-up and networking with other attendees during meals.

For the second time, Scientific Sessions preceded Conference, and they were again a rousing success with the 350 medical professionals in attendance. These sessions, which featured the latest advances in PH research from renowned experts, continued to provide medical professionals, researchers and clinicians with the opportunity to cultivate the knowledge and momentum necessary to help find a cure for pulmonary hypertension.

What PHers Said About Conference:

“WOW! What a wonderful Conference! I learned so much and met so many terrific, hope-inspiring people. The only bad thing about it was the fact that it had to end!”

“My favorite thing about Conference was that our child was able to connect with other children with the disease – for her to feel ‘normal’ and identify with others both young and old was priceless.”

“What a wonderful unique gathering! It is extremely heartwarming to see all of the players in the direct health chain come together to seek solutions for the betterment of the patient community.”

“The most amazing thing about this conference was the amount of hope and encouragement it offered. With such a limited knowledge of PH before this, I didn’t expect to hear such stories of courage, hope and survival in the face of such an awful disease.”

PHers chatting at 2006 conference“I come to Conference for 3 reasons: to see, in the direct context of PH, the research and direction it’s taking; to reinforce my sense of hope; and to connect with the inspirational aspects of the experience. There is a tendency, day-to-day, to get lost in the usual sequence of crises and issues and lose track of what it’s all about.”

“The best part about Conference was meeting my friends from the message board and meeting the doctors who fight PH every single day. They have become my personal heroes.”
