Make the most of your Web of Friends page!

Be bold. Don't set your fundraising goal too low. Most people are able to raise over $1,000 through their fundraising page in just a few months, so make sure your goal is realistic, but still ambitious. If your goal is too low, potential donors might think you aren't taking your fundraising seriously.

Make the first donation to your page. As soon as your page is set up, pull out your credit card and make the very first donation. This shows potential donors that you are passionate about the cause and that supporting PHA programs is important to you. It also makes it possible for you to include the phrase "Join Me" in every email or message about your online fundraising.

Promote the page from your own email address. Your family and friends may feel more comfortable receiving emails from your personal address, rather than an automated message sent through the page.

Go global. Don't forget to ask beyond your immediate family and circle of friends: colleagues and former colleagues, neighbors, high school or college classmates, members of religious, civic or volunteer groups, and anyone who's asked you to donate to their cause. The magic of the internet is that anyone can give to your page, no matter if they're around the corner or around the world.

Promote your page through social networking. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social networking sites are fabulous ways to get the word out about your fundraising. Occasionally post a link to your fundraising page in status updates, or message contacts to ask for donations. You can even use a URL shortening service (such as TinyURL or to post a super-short link to your fundraising page in your message.

Include a link to your page in your email signature. This will raise awareness of your online fundraising and ensure that every email you send could prompt a donation.

Ask donors to add a line to their email signature that says “I just made a donation to my friend’s webpage: (link to your page).  I hope you will too!” 

Get personal. Call people on the phone, or talk to them in person and ask, “Did you get my email?  Do you have any questions about PHA or PH?” This lets people know you think it's important for them to get involved. This will definitely be more memorable than simply sending an email request!

Send occasional email updates on your progress. It's a nice way to update those who have already donated, and it serves a reminder for those who haven't contributed yet. You know what it's like: people mean to donate, but sometimes they don't quite get round to it on the first request!

Consider having a contest or offering a prize. Sometimes donors need a little extra motivation to give. You could include everyone who makes a donation in a raffle for an item or service, similar to what Larry Fox did with his fundraising page.

Ask to be on featured on your school, club or company website. Many organizations like to promote the charitable efforts of their members and it's a great opportunity to draw a lot of extra attention (and extra donations!). Some employers may even offer a "matching gift" program where they match any amount you raise, helping you reach your goal even faster.
