PHA Australia held a very successful trivia night and auction. Thanks to advertising efforts prior to the event, they reached some patients who had not previously heard of them. They started the night off by talking about pulmonary hypertension and informing those who had come but had not heard of the disease. The evening was a great success -- they raised $4500 AUD. Here is their story...
Hi this is Annie from PHA Australia.... Hello to everyone, hope this email
finds you all well :)
Just thought I would share one of our fundraising ventures with you all.
On the 13th of July we held a Trivia Night. We had lots of prizes and a raffle
(where you buy tickets to win a prize).
We charged $10 per person to get in the door and there were 20 tables of
8 people per table. As soon as people walked in the door we had people
selling tickets to them to win various prizes. There was also a lucky door
prize so when you paid you $10 you were automatically entered into that.
Before people got there we stuck some tickets under chairs and during the
night everyone had to look under their chair to see if they were in a lucky
spot.
There were also special prize questions during the night, guess how many
jelly beans a jar that they had to pay a gold coin ($1) to enter and also
throw a gold coin ($1 or $2) at a bottle of scotch and the closest won it.
Carmel spoke to all about Pulmonary Hypertension before the games began and
had lots of people asking her questions during the night. :)
There are two things to concentrate on -- the first is to get as many prizes
as you can to make it a fun night and lots of people walk out winners, this
is done by begging businesses (which we did) and I also painted some
canvases and made some jewelery (which was popular with the ladies) we had
accommodation, a signed football jersey from a well known national team,
dinners for two, facials, lots of beer and wine for prizes. Everything was
donated so no cost to us and we also had the function room donated as well.
The second thing is to advertise the night which we did on our website and
on local radio and in the paper. We even had calls from people that had
Pulmonary Hypertension just from advertising the night! Which was an added
bonus.
We will be making this an annual event. There was lots of fun, trying to
make money for PH should not be always stressful. Hard work when you are
with a great team can be fun.
I could not attend as I live 3000 kilometres away -- the hostesses for the
night were Carmel (Carmel and I share the job of president) and my mum
Laurel who represented me, both families worked extremely hard on the night
but it was a good hourly rate!! Carmel and her daughters and my mum, sister
and her children. We all contributed in different ways and all was positive
and happy.
WE RAISED $4500.00. Woooooooo Hooooooooooo.
