Theresa Stahl's local paper, the Crescent News, had done an article on her when she was very ill three years ago so she knew they would be a great paper to contact about raising awareness about PH during Awareness Month. She called the local paper’s health editor and requested they do another article on PH. She was interviewed on Nov. 7 and the article was published on Nov. 11. (Read article)
The next day, a woman in a town 18 miles away called Theresa and said that her husband also has PH. Within a week they met for lunch and a friendship is being built up from the publication of this article.
Theressa also contacted her local Mayor’s office in Defiance, Ohio, and requested a proclamation to recognize November as PH Awareness Month for the city. Using information provided by PHA, she dropped off a sample proclamation and information about PH and the Mayor agreed. She attended the official proclamation signing with her physician and another local patient.
After the signing the Mayor invited Stahl to be interviewed on a local radio station show called “Breakfast with Bob” -- “Bob” refers to the Mayor. So she went to a restaurant on Nov. 7 and prepared a format of questions and answers to facilitate her conversation with the Mayor and the radio station announcer. She said that everyone “had very positive attitudes and interest in learning about PH.”
Additionally, Stahl also contacted her local Lions Club and will give a presentation about PH at their meeting in January. She also contacted the local Grand Knight of the Grand Knights of Columbus and they let her speak at their meeting on November 14 as well as contribute a brief piece about PH for their local newsletter.
