Submits New Drug Application (NDA) for Investigational EXANTA(R) (ximelagatran)
as First New Oral Anticoagulant in Over 50 Years
EXANTA is the first oral anticoagulant
to reach late-stage clinical trials since the development of warfarin

to inhibit the activity of an enzyme called thrombin, which is critical
to the final step in the formation of blood clots. Clinical studies with
EXANTA utilize a fixed dose without coagulation monitoring.

There must be something in our environment and in our genes that's causing this response," he said.

PH, edited the book for accuracy.
This is an informational piece presented by National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. It discusses the incidence of PPH and what may be the cause of it. It also discusses the course of the disease, how it is diagnosed and the treatments that are being used for PPH. Please note: This was printed in the early 1990's before many of the oral treatments were available.
