Allentown
woman offers aid to others with rare disease
(Allentown,
Penn. -- The Morning Call) Joan Stevenson first noticed something
wrong while walking uphill on a city sidewalk: She couldn't take
more than a few steps without stopping to catch her breath....
Now 74 and breathing easier after years
of treatment, she wants to educate others about the disease that strikes
infants
as well as elderly, blacks as well as whites, and men as well
as
women. She wants to help those similarly afflicted to get the
help they need to avoid organ failure or premature death.
To that
end,
she has joined the national Pulmonary Hypertension Association
and runs a support group that meets at Sacred Heart Hospital in
Allentown.

for people dealing with PH -- they have ARRIVED and are ready to

knowledge of PH edited the book for accuracy.
New edition contains a chart
of 15 drugs used to treat PH; results of recent
clinical trials;
in-depth discussion of PH secondary to other diseases
or conditions;
a new chapter on what to eat if you have PH; and much, much more!
'I keep pushing all the time':
Londoner Lynn Horton spent nearly a year going from doctor to doctor, trying
to figure out the mysterious illness that changed her life.
(The London Free Press) Lynn Horton says she
has been credited with saving her own life. What else can you
do when you suffer from a disease
often mistaken for other illnesses? ...The London woman spent nearly a
year visiting doctors and searching the Internet to find reasons
why she was so
tired and short of breath. ...The answer is pulmonary hypertension, sometimes
called the other high blood pressure because it's concentrated in the arteries
of
the lungs.
The
new "PHenomenal Hope" wristbands are selling fast! PH Special Events
Volunteer Liz Rossi had to order an additional 100 wristbands to distribute
to her daughter's peers at school and others have told us that kids
in elementary through to college are eager to get their PH wristband!
We want to encourage you to consider purchasing
them to share or sell at your child or teen's school to raise awareness and visibility about
PH. We also heard of Support Group's receiving $2 donations
for wristbands, so you might consider using them as a fundraiser and
suggesting
that friends donate what they can (above the cost of 1 dollar) for
the wristbands!
