On July 4, 1999 our good friend Kipp Palmer passed away from complications due to Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Not only was Kipp a great golfer, but he was a fighter who, in the end, couldn't prevail over PPH. Help us remember Kipp on June 24th while contributing to the good cause of PPH cure research.

The California PH Forum offers support and medical updates for patients, their families, friends, and medical professionals interested in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. It is presented in the years in between the Pulmonary Hypertension Association's biennial international conferences.

Kennedy Center Evening of Music, Friendship, and PH Awareness
Soprano Charity SunshinePHA presented An Evening of Music, Friendship and Awareness at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on June 11. Charity Sunshine, a 21-year-old soprano and PH patient sang a program of classical and popular music. Her grandfather, Congressman Tom Lantos, hosted the event, and Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Director of NIH, spoke discussing the importance of PH research and recognizing the role of PHA.

On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Revatio (sildenafil citrate), a drug designed to help fight pulmonary hypertension.

Researchers Develop Gene Therapy To Reverse Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

University of Alberta research team has discovered important new information they hope will lead to more effective treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)--a deadly form of high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries caused by uncontrolled cell growth. Therapies are currently limited for a disease that can lead to heart failure and death within a few years.

CoTherix Initiates Phase II Trial for Ventavis in Expanded Indication

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CoTherix, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTRX) announced today that it has initiated a Phase II trial for its marketed product, Ventavis(R) (iloprost) Inhalation Solution, to potentially expand the indication to include pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Ventavis was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in December 2004 for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) (World Health Organization Group I) in patients with NYHA Class III or IV symptoms.
