California PH Conference Continues to Grow

from the CA PH Forum Committee

The California PH Conference - held June 25-26, 2005 - was attended by over 200 people, including patients, friends & family, medical professionals, and representatives from leading PH drug companies.

The event earned high marks for the informative talks, good food, and friendly atmosphere.

This was our biggest turnout since the forum began in 1999 and we see the event growing and growing. We look forward to hosting another in 2007.

Lung transplant: A treatment for life-threatening lung disease

Your lungs transfer the oxygen you inhale to your blood, and they remove from your blood carbon dioxide, which you exhale. Damage to various structures in your lungs can affect how well you breathe or how efficiently the organs exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Some medications or breathing-assistance devices may help improve the function of your lungs. When these therapies are no longer beneficial or poor lung function is life-threatening, your doctor may recommend a lung transplant.

Before making a decision about a lung transplant, know what to expect of the organ transplant process, the surgery itself, potential risks and follow-up care.

For Patients:
While we are bringing together leading specialists and interested medical professionals for the Medical Education Sessions, we know that patients will also greatly benefit from these gatherings. We are therefore very excited to announce PHA's Regional Patient Education Sessions.
Many of the medical professionals presenting earlier during the day will stay for the evening's PHA Regional Patient Education Session to participate in a dinner, educational slide-show and panel discussion of current advances in PH. Kim Bernstein, director of ACCESS, will also be at each session, presenting on insurance issues and how to use her program as an important resource.

Partnering with Actelion and Accredo Therapeutics we are able to allow a free ticket to each patient and one guest (a 50 dollar value), up to the first 200 registrants. This includes dinner and the presentations. Any additional guests or registrations after the first 200, will need to purchase a ticket at $25. PH patients with Scleroderma are also invited to attend a Scleroderma Support Group meeting taking place earlier in the day.

PHA thanks Actelion, our primary sponsor, and Accredo Therapeutics for their generous support of this program.
