Heart Pump Unapproved by FDA Kept Child Alive
Anyone who saw Michael Habbe, 2, cheerfully chasing his sister in a rooftop garden at St. Louis Children's Hospital would hardly believe that three months ago the boy had a heart transplant. When Michael's heart began to fail in March, high blood pressure in his lungs, called pulmonary hypertension, made the problem worse. Read article

Transplant Patients Can Wait Lifetime for Donor
More than 90,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant. Every 14 minutes another name is added to the National Waiting List. Sixteen transplant candidates die every day waiting for an organ. One person can help more than 100 people by becoming an organ donor. Read article

EPIX Pharmaceuticals Receives Response From the FDA Regarding Appeal of Vasovist(TM) Approvable Letters
Vasovist is an injectable intravascular contrast agent designed to provide visual imaging of the vascular system through magnetic resonance angiography. Read article

Stem-Cell Gift a Lift, but University of Colorado Still Lags
The university announced Wednesday that it will use a $6 million gift from the Gates Family Fund to create the Charles C. Gates Program in Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology. Norbert Voelkel and Susan Majka are investigating vascular adult stem cells that may play a role in pulmonary hypertension. Read article
