PATIENTS: HELP US GET YOUR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS ON THE TREADMILL

PH community members - here's some important and valuable   information we would like you to share with your doctor.

This year at the CHEST convention, a conference for cardiologists and pulmonologists, in Chicago, Ill., on October 20-25, Gilead will  host the "Walk for PAH" to help raise money for programs and services supported by PHA. For each step on one of their treadmills, Gilead will donate $0.20 to PHA.

As an added bonus, Gilead will double the per-step contribution to $0.40 for each participant who preregisters at www.my-nextstep.com. At that rate, it's $120 for PHA for a brisk 3-minute walk! The contributions will add up fast!

Please ask your doctors to sign up and go to Gilead's booth at the CHEST convention - # 929. Thank you for your support.

MANY STEP UP TO PRODUCE UPDATE OF A PATIENT'S SURVIVAL GUIDE
An update to Pulmonary Hypertension: A Patient's Survival Guide has just arrived in PHA's office. The guide is the brainchild of Gail Boyer Hayes, who worked on the first three complete editions of the guide. Responsibility for updating the guide has now been taken over by a team of medical experts led by Dr. Ron Oudiz and supported by groups of non-MD medical professionals and patient writers, as well as PHA staff. We plan to issue two updates to the guide each year, ensuring that the guide remains relevant and up-to-date for PH patients in the U.S. and around the world.

The latest version - Third edition, Revised September 2007 - includes a revised Medications Chart, resources chapter, and a list of international PH associations. To order a copy of the new Survival Guide, click here  or call 301-565-3004.

A New Take on Life - Rossville Woman Looks to Live with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

From the Journal & Courier, Lafayette - West Lafayette, Indiana

When Cindy Haan started feeling constantly exhausted and easily out of breath early last year, she assumed it was related to her busy schedule as a working mother of three.

But as her symptoms progressed - to weakness and numbness in her legs and the inability to go up stairs or to the mailbox without taking a break - Haan started to realize something more serious was going on.

COOKIN' UP A CURE HOUSE PARTIES
New PHA House Party Guide Received with Enthusiasm!

Several PHA Support Group Leaders were the first to receive PHA's new house parties guide, Cookin' Up a Cure and their response has been nothing short of enthusiastic. Here's what one leader had to say: "I just have to thank you. What a beautiful, beautiful house party guide! Cookin' up a Cure is very, very nice, and very do-able. I think we'll try one in January or February. I still have to talk to the "chief cook and bottle washer" (my husband)! Tell whoever put this guide together that she, or her team, did a terrific job."

House parties only require one or two people to make them happen and can be as grand or intimate as the host wants.

PHA's Cookin' Up a Cure House Party Guide features ideas for educating family and friends and raising funds to fight PH right from the host's own home. The guide gives advice on how every individual can make a difference using their kitchen table, backyard or living room!

Order your House Party Guide today! Contact Deirdre Farrell at event@PHAssociation.org or 301-565-3004 x125.
