| PH RESOURCE NETWORK STORMS CAPITOL HILL |
|
On October 11, sixty members of the PH Resource Network visited fifty-three Congressional offices to urge co-sponsorship of H.R. 3368, the Pulmonary Hypertension Research and Education Act of 2007. Health professionals from around the country participated in a brief lobbying training and then traveled to Capitol Hill where they were addressed by PH champions Rep. Kevin Brady and Rep. Tom Lantos before breaking off into lobby groups to conduct their visits.
More then 75% of event participants were first-time lobbyists who, as one said, saw lobby day as "too important an opportunity to pass up." Whether they'd been to Capitol Hill before or not, everyone was there to make a difference and their work is already paying off. On Monday October 15, the PH Research and Education Act received three new co-sponsors! All three had received visits from PH Resource Network members the week before.
Lobby days are just one way to communicate with your members of Congress about PH legislation. For information about how you can make a difference as a PH advocate, contact Katie at 301-565-3004 x109 or Katherine@PHAssociation.org. |
| INTRODUCING OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBER |
|
| Welcome Rev. Stephen L. White, Ph.D.
The PHA Board of Trustees is delighted to welcome Steve White, a priest of the Episcopal Church, as its newest member. He has served as Episcopal chaplain at Princeton University since 2000. Steve lost his daughter Christen to PH in 2002 and has been involved in helping PHA support groups deal with grieving.
Prior to entering the ordained ministry in 1997 Steve worked in various capacities in the health care field including hospital administration, managed psychiatric care, teaching and health services research at the University of South Florida College of Public Health, and in developing health promotion services and hospital consulting services for Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems. Steve and his wife Andrea, a speech-language pathologist, and their son Aidan divide their time between Princeton, New Jersey and Hancock, Massachusetts.

We want to know how Pathlight can continue to evolve so that it serves you best. Let us know what we got right - Is it easier to navigate? More interesting to read? Does it look nicer? Are we reporting on what you need to know? Whatever your reaction, we'd love to hear it! Share your thoughts or ideas with Christine.

Keep Hope Alive - Join PHA's Monthly Giving Program
PHer joins PHA's Sustainers Circle to stay connected to PH community while far away from home.
Leslie Hess, Aunt of pediatric patient Iain Hess, is very passionate about our cause. A resident of Washington, D.C, she volunteered regularly in PHA's office until she started working overseas.
Making monthly credit card gifts to PHA via the Sustainers Circle is a convenient way for her to support our cause while she is away in Kosovo. She says, "because I work abroad, I am not able to volunteer my time to supporting the fight against PH. I decided to join PHA's Sustainers Circle in order to stay connected to the PH community and support my family while being far from home."
PHA maintains a host of programs that benefit patients, their family members and the medical professionals who treat them. We fight day in and day out in our search for a cure because pulmonary hypertension never takes a break -- and we don't either. We invite you to support our shared cause by becoming a member of PHA's Sustainers Circle, PHA's monthly giving program. By giving PHA permission to collect a monthly payment from your credit card in the amount you set, you help us keep hope alive.
