|
On Thursday, November 15, 2007, PHA will host its 4th Annual Congressional Luncheon in Washington, D.C. No matter where you live, you can help make this year's Congressional Luncheon a success. Personal contact from a constituent is the most effective way to make sure that Members of Congress are in the room to learn about PH and about what they can do to help. Invite your senators and representative today. Then, invite your family and friends! Enjoy lunch while learning about PH and the PH Research and Education Act of 2007 from a series of speakers directly impacted by pulmonary hypertension.
We need your help to make this event a success! Invite your Members of Congress or R.S.V.P. for the luncheon |

NOVEMBER IS PH AWARENESS MONTH!
ATTEND ONE OF THE MANY EXCITING EVENTS GOING ON THIS MONTH! |
|
This is the season for the PHA community -- including all the family and friends of PH patients -- to get together for mutual support, and to make a difference. Special event planners are organizing events to raise awareness and funds for research and PHA, and you can help too!
So get out to a PHA event near you! There is an average of 3 special events each week during awareness month, so check the calendar to see what's going on near you. Here are three ways you can get involved:
- Attend one of the many Awareness Month Events! Our event planners have been working hard to create events you won't want to miss.
- Offer to help event planners near you! Call or email event planners and tell them you want to volunteer. Pass out fliers before an event, help with registration, make goodie bags or other tasks. You can find the planner of each event listed on the calendar, along with their contact info. This is also a great way to make new friends!
- No events nearby? Have your own! While golf tournaments and funwalks take several months of planning, you can plan a House Party in just a few weeks. Contact Deirdre to order your free copy of "Cookin' Up a Cure: PHA's House Party Guide" at Deirdre@PHAssociation.org or 301-565-3004 x125.

BRINGING ADVANCES INTO PRACTICE AT 2007 PH RESOURCE NETWORK SYMPOSIUM |
|
It was wonderful to see so many new faces at the 2007 PH Resource Network Symposium this year! The Symposium Committee worked hard to bring a variety of up-to-date topics and dynamic speakers to its two-day educational event at the Crystal City Hyatt Regency in Arlington, Va., in October. This biennial event continues to grow and was attended by 350 allied healthcare professionals including nurses, nurse practitioners and respiratory therapists. Many came away from the event with a sense of purpose and meaning in their professional daily lives.
Read all about the symposium and the successful lobby day that brought in 3 new co-sponsors for the PH Research & Education Act as well as view presentation slides and photo albums from the event.
Thanks to an unrestricted educational grant from Gilead, a complimentary CD-ROM with the slides and audio of all the presentations will be sent to all event participants and will be available online late November/early December. |
AWARENESS MONTH OPPORTUNITY
MEDIA CORNER: Your Story is a Powerful Tool |
|
You can help raise awareness in your community this month by reaching out to your local media and offering an interview through PH Aware! Reporters NEED stories that will be meaningful to their community. Your community NEEDS to gain an understanding of PH. What is your most powerful tool in connecting these needs? Your own PH story.
You can contact local media outlets and educate reporters about PH and the ways in which it impacts your life. PHA will provide you with the informational materials, ideas and advice you need to build relationships with your local media. Help put a face on PH and raise awareness in your community.
It is so very easy to do. Send emails, make phone calls. We all were once at the beginning of PH and very scared and didn't know anything about PH. There are lots of people who may be out there that are scared and feel they are alone. We can help. We can give them hope. Reach out and make a difference. - Lora Mausling

| COMMUNITY MEMBERS WIN WEBSITE REDESIGN SURVEY PRIZE PACKAGE |
|
We reported a few weeks ago about the great response we received from you all about our website -- what you like and what you want changed. We were so thrilled with the number of people who took the time to fill out the survey -- 547 of you to be exact -- that we chose 2 prize winners. With our trusty webmaster Diane on the injured list we weren't able to announce the winners of the survey prize package. So without further adieu, the lucky winners are:
- Sylvia Steinbrock, PHA member from New York City
- Barbara Smithson (pictured above left), PH Resource Network member and Research Nurse Coordinator at Rhode Island Hospital PH Center
What they won: Pulmonary Hypertension: A Patient's Survival Guide, PHAdvocacy DVD - Building Hope, Gaining Momentum (features inspiring speeches from our 2006 International Conference), CARD-iology note cards designed by PHers, PHA t-shirt, PHenomenal Hope periwinkle wristband and PH heart pin.
We will be using your responses to the survey in our website redesign process over the next year to completely revamp our website with a new look, navigational structure and new features. So keep the feedback coming! Contact Diane Greenhalgh at web@PHAssociation.org or 301-565-3004 x119. She loves to hear from you! |
