| BREAKTHROUGH FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH COULD HELP PH PATIENTS |
|
|
In a recent interview, Dr. Michael Kutryk, M.D., a cardiologist at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto, Canada, explains how a patient's own cells may be used to repair damage caused by PH. He describes the endothelial lining that covers the pulmonary vasculature, which are replaced by circulating endothelial progenitor cells. These freely circulating endothelial progenitor cells may be stimulated to become healthy cells and used to repair damaged blood vessels. This is of interest to the PH community due to the damage and eventual loss of blood vessels that results from PH.
