HOT OFF THE PRESS -- UPDATED SURVIVAL GUIDE FEATURES EXPANDED DRUGS CHAPTER!
The latest update of PHA's acclaimed Survival Guide is hot off the press! A must-have for every PH patient, the guide candidly addresses the difficult topics that confront PH patients, caregivers and families. At the same time a message of hope can be found in discussions of issues such as presently available treatments and promising new treatments being developed. This version -- Third Edition, revised March 2008 -- includes a revamped chapter on PH Drugs (Chapter 5), with expanded sections on lines and pumps, endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs), and combination therapy. Order a copy of the new Survival Guide online or print the order form or call 301-565-3004 x0.

Take learning about PH treatments beyond the Survival Guide's covers and into PHA's 8th International PH Conference! For more information on PH treatments, make sure to attend medical sessions at Conference such as: "An Overview of Medical Therapies for PAH," "New Frontiers: Combination Therapy, Transition to Oral Therapy," "Prostanoids," and much more! Learn more about Conference

Boca Raton Man Turns to Art After Beating Fatal Ailment
(Boca Raton News) -- When Gary Farmer was 45, his doctors told him he had a terminal illness and would live only another two to five years. That was in 1996 -- and Farmer, so far, has beaten those odds. Along the way, the now 57-year-old resident of Boca Raton discovered artistic talents he never knew existed. Read article
OPPORTUNITY FOR RESEARCH FUNDING THROUGH DOD
PHA is pleased to announce that pulmonary hypertension is a disease eligible for study within the Department of Defense Peer Review Medical Research Program (PRMP) during fiscal year 2008. The Fiscal Year 2008 Defense Appropriations Act provides $50 million to the DOD PRMRP and pulmonary hypertension is one of only 21 Congressionally directed topic areas eligible for study under the program.

The program is now accepting applications (Letter of Intent due June 4, 2008; Research Proposal due July 2, 2008).

Thanks to the efforts of the PH community and increased awareness of pulmonary hypertension in Congress, PH first appeared as a disease eligible for study under the DOD PRMP during fiscal year 2006. In that year, only 7.5% of the proposals submitted to this program were funded, and a PH proposal was one of them. This is a testament to the quality of the research being done within the PH community.
