My name is Debbie Greer and I am a 42 year old wife and mother of 5 kids ages 2-10. Last July my entire world came crashing down around me. Whenever walking to or from the grocery store (7min.away) or walking up and down the stairs in my home, I would be left gasping for what seemed like my last breath of air and severe chest pain. After ignoring this excruciating pain for weeks, I finally was rushed to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA. It was there that I learned the devastating news, I was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension.
It has taken me nearly the entire time since my diagnosis to come to grips with this horrible disease. I have been educating myself and my spouse with as much information about this disease and how to take care of myself and my small children for however long God will keep me here. My biggest struggle is preparing my spouse and in subtle ways, my children, for life without mom. Due to the fact that I must mix and prepare my Flolan medication on a daily basis, which consist of a mixture of vials, syringes and needles, this leaves me little energy for my family life. I have 5 small children, three of which are in school and the 2 younger ones are at home with me. It is by the Grace of God that I am still with them and my husband, Nigel. I pray each day and each night that a cure will soon be found, if not in my lifetime, then in someone else's.
