Circle of Friends is a letter writing campaign which empowers you to share your PH story with family and friends and raise funds at the same time. This campaign not only creates awareness, it gives friends and family members an opportunity to show their support by making a donation to PHA in your honor. The concept is very simple, and PHA staff is available to help along the way.
Steps:
Harness the power of the Internet and participate in Circle of Friends online program, Web of Friends
Set a financial goal
Your financial goal should be large enough that the friends and family members you contact realize that supporting PHA is important to you. This should be clearly stated in your letter. You can direct the money raised to patient services or to research, or split the donations between the two.
Make a list
You can include friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and others to whom you will send a letter. The list should be long enough that you and others have a good chance of meeting your goal.
Write the letter
PHA has created a sample letter which you can adapt and personalize or you can create your own letter from scratch. The most important elements of the letter are the portions that tell the story of how PH has affected you and why PHA is important to you. The Letter Doctor is here to help with writing and/or editing your letter. Call Andrew at 301-565-3004 x116 or email giving@PHAssociation.org for a sample letter and other Circle of Friends materials.
"Spreading awareness about PH is just as important
to us as the dollars we collected."
- Denise and Bill Colsher, parents of
a PH patient
Enclose return envelopes with your address along with your letters. Collect the donations and mail them in bunches to the PHA office, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Include a note that designates the checks as Circle of Friends. PHA will send a thank you letter to those who participated in your campaign. You may want to send a personal thank you letter to your donors.
