Hoops, Hops,
and Hope
This event is perfect for elementary and junior high students.
Each student will collect pledges for each time he/she jumps rope
or successfully shoots a basket in gym class. It's a great way
to get kids involved in raising PH awareness and funds.
Steps:
- Contact PHA
Contact the Development department at 301-565-3004 x127 and tell them of your
interest in Hoops, Hops, and Hope. They can provide you with
tools to help you in your planning.
- Draft parent and student materials
You will need to write two documents - a parent
sponsorship letter and a student
sponsor form. The parent sponsorship letter should explain
about the event and encourage their children's participation.
The student pledge sheet will be used by participants to record
their pledges.
- Contact the school's principal or administrator
Call and arrange to meet with the school's principal to discuss
your event idea.
- Meet the principal or administrator
Share your story of PH and your interest in raising awareness.
Tell him/her about your event idea and how it would help the
PH community. Show him/her your parent sponsorship letter and
student sponsor form.
- Work with the school to set up and publicize the event
Volunteer your help to coordinate the event with the proper
parties at the school.
- Stay involved at the event
You can take pictures or get quotes from participants to include
in the school's newsletter.
- Tell PHA
Tell PHA about your event. Upon receipt, PHA will send you a
certificate of recognition and offer the opportunity to connect
with other active members of the PH community.
