Support Group Work Leads to the Training of 18 Primary Care Doctors!Editor’s Note: Cindy emailed us enthusiastically about the impact of her group in medical education of local primary care physicians. Our Support Groups educate, inspire and provide hope. In addition, they are capable of making a difference in the larger PH community. This group’s medical education will no doubt help patients receive early diagnosis and reduce misdiagnosis. Read her email below to see what we mean!

I want to tell you what transpired as a result of the last Piedmont PH Support Group meeting. It is awesome. Here goes.
Suzanne Caroon, MSW. LCSW who is a counselor for patients with chronic diseases was our support group speaker March 3, 2007. Her talk was very informative in that it provide practical advice to head off depression and anxiety.
After the meeting, Sue took several PH brochures with her to share with the nurses at work. She works for a very large medical practice, Winston Salem health care. A few days later the nurse in charge of arranging CMEs for physicians at that practice called me. She wanted to know if we could give a PH presentation with CMEs for the 18 Primary Care Physicians in the practice. I emailed my PH doctor, Duncan Hite, MD to see if he was able to do this with CMEs attached through North Carolina Baptist Hospital. It was a “go!” One of the drug reps was contacted to see if he would sponsor the event. After coordinating schedules, Dr. Hite is now scheduled to host a PH presentation to these 18 primary care physicians on September 21, 2007. Dr. Hite emailed me later and said, “We are making progress. Thanks!.”
This is exciting. You never know what will happen as a result of these group meeting.
