Rep. English Speaks to Mercer Area PH Support Group

On Friday August 25, 2006 Congressman Phil English for the 3rd District of Pennsylvania came to speak at the Mercer Area PH Support Group.

Rep English, Betty, MerleCongressman English has been a co-sponsor of the PH Research Act (now HR 3005) since it was first introduced several years ago. He spoke on how important it is to the PH community that monies for federal PH research be expanded and about how research will lead to medical advancements including a possible cure for PH. In addition, he discussed the importance of a clearinghouse for PH related information, which will increase physician’s knowledge of this disease and their ability to detect, diagnose, and treat it.

Finally, Congressman English spoke on state Medicaid Programs PACE and PACENET as well as changes to Medicare and how Congress will be working to improve miscalculations with Plan D. He said we all need to be health care advocates and mentioned how impressed he was with our group. Questions and answers followed.

It took us three years to get Congressman English to come and speak to our group and it was worth the wait. His presentation was excellent and the time he spent with us is truly appreciated.

If anyone needs help in getting your Congressperson to co-sponsor The PH Research Act or talk to your group we will be glad to let you know what we did to reach this goal.

We care, we share, and we are trying to make the public and the medical profession in our area aware.
