I’m here today because I want Members of Congress to be aware of this disease and to push the Tom Lantos bill forward so that we can get more education out there for the general public and more doctors to be aware of what this disease is all about…I enjoyed my day! This is my first time lobbying, and this won’t be my last.
-Medeta Belke on her experience at PHA’s 5th Annual Congressional Luncheon
|
Nearly 100 people from five states spread the word about pulmonary hypertension on Capitol Hill during PHA’s 5th Annual Congressional Luncheon. At lunch, legislative staff from across the country mingled with patients, family members and medical professionals. Post-lunch lobby visits put patients and family in their senators’ offices for meetings with legislative staff. Three groups got to meet their senators face-to-face, including a group of 60 from North Carolina who had a photo op with Sen. Richard Burr on the steps of the Capitol.
Pictured right, Paulette met Sen. Thomas Carper from her home state of Delaware.
