UPDATE!
It’s Official! November Declared PH Awareness Month in New Jersey
SJR-55/AJR-126, which designates November of each year as Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month in New Jersey, was signed into law by Governor Jon S. Corzine on January 3, 2008. Congratulations, Patty!

April, 2007

Patty FarrowWith persistence, Patty Farrow has seen her PH advocacy grow from a casual conversation with the mayor of her small town to a pending resolution in the New Jersey legislature.

Patty Farrow is an active member of her PH support group, but she never planned for the mayor of her town to support a resolution about PH.

Paulsboro is a small town in southwest New Jersey, not far from Philadelphia. It’s the kind of town in which a woman could find herself conversing with the mayor about her health. It was during one such conversation that Patty Farrow’s mayor, John Burzichelli, told her: “If there’s ever anything I can do, just let me know.” Patty knew she had been presented with an important opportunity.

Working with PHA, Patty developed a resolution officially declaring November “Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month” in her town. Mayor Burzichelli and the Council voted to support the resolution. “It was a wonderful experience,” said Patty. “It was proof that my town cares….They were more than happy to help and I honestly believe this is just the beginning for us.”

Patty was right that this was just a beginning…recently, she learned that the New Jersey legislature has introduced a resolution calling for every November in the state of new Jersey to be declared Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month!

With persistence, Patty Farrow has seen her PH advocacy grow from a casual conversation with the mayor of her small town to a pending resolution in the New Jersey legislature. She plans to continue doing whatever it takes to raise awareness about PH, including participating in the Circle of Friends Campaign, planning PH awareness activities for her community and building relationships with her U.S. Senators and Representative through the 435 Campaign.
