Things I Found on PHA's Website

Faces of PH

This week I found something that I hope many of you have seen, yet I'm using it anyway just for those who have not seen it, because it is that good: "Faces of PH." I was inspired to highlight this section when I read about Merle's recent appearance on her local TV station. She said she was "doing my thing for PH and awareness."

"Faces of PH" was a national awareness campaign to raise the profile of pulmonary hypertension. The campaign's goal was to garner media coverage of a PH patient and his/her PH doctor in 10 major U.S. cities. This very successful campaign was completed in 2006, and there is a map with 10 linked stars on it, one for each of the 10 major U.S. cities. Those stars lead to the patient/doctor stories. Many of you will recognize your PH doctors among them.

My favorite part of this section, however, is the video. I can remember, and I know many of you can remember, when no one you knew had ever heard of PH. This video includes exerpts from many news broadcasts of the "Faces of PH" stories, interviews with both the PH doctors and the patients from around the country. I admit it, I'm still excited when I hear PH mentioned on the news or a TV show. I hope there comes a day when PH is so well-known that it is no longer exciting to hear it. Stories such as these help bring that day closer. These stories will sound familiar to you, and maybe some of the people will be familiar as well.
