Robyn J. Barst, MD is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She attended college at the University of Rochester and medical school at the University of North Carolina. She completed her pediatric cardiology training at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and worked at Columbia from 1983-2008.

Dr. Barst has been involved with PHA since its founding. She served on the Scientific Leadership Council from 1996-2008, served as Chair from 2004-2006, and has been an advisor to the SLC since 2008. She was also on the Board of Trustees from 2002-2008. She is a member of PH Clinicians and Researchers and received the PHA Award of Excellence in PAH Care in 2008.

Dr. Barst has served on the 2008 Dana Point and 2009 ACCF/AHA Task Forces for Guidelines for Pulmonary Hypertension. She also served on the American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young Leadership Committee from 1993-2010 and was Chair from 2000-2002.

Her professional focus for more than 30 years has been to advance the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension for children and adults of all ages. Despite the additional challenges in drug development for children with pulmonary arterial hypertension, she continues to work with regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies and academia to foster pediatric drug development for pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Barst has initiated a PHA Pediatric Research Fund to establish an endowment dedicated to improving the quality of life and outcomes for children with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

She currently lives in Scarsdale, New York with her husband Dr. Samuel Barst. Their two grown daughters live in New York City and Philadelphia pursuing their careers in law and medicine.
