Meet Shaye!

This interview was conducted in October 2010.

Where do you live?
I live in Houston, Texas.

How old are you?
I am ten years old.

When were you diagnosed?
I was diagnosed in March 2010 when I was nine years old.

When did you first start having PH symptoms?
When I was about seven, but they told my mom and dad it was anxiety. Then, I fell and had to have an x-ray. In the x-ray they could see my large heart.

What were your symptoms?
I was dizzy, fatigued and short of breath. I also had chest pain and heart pounding.

What activities do you like to do?
I love swimming and miss it now. I also like to play video games and play on the computer.

How do you spend your summers?
I visit people and play with my best friend Josselyn and my sister Julia.

How has your life changed since your PH diagnosis?
I spend a lot of time at the doctor, and I get a lot of needle pokes now. I don't get to do some things I used to do like swimming or jumping on the trampoline.

What message would you like to pass on to other kids who have PH?
Don't be scared and try to be brave. I know it can be hard. I don't like wearing my pump, but it is making me feel better.
