This Valentine's Day, PHers Celebrate Their Caregivers
PHA asked PH patients to tell us about their caregivers, and PHers from around the world emailed in to tell us about the husbands, wives and children who support them every day. Here are two of those stories.
Melanie Gertcher Kozak
My husband, Jason Kozak, is my caregiver. I can't say enough about all of the wonderful things he does for me. He learned to mix Flolan and now Veletri and assists me whenever I need him. He is there for both emotional and physical support. I have multiple sclerosis, so between that and PH I do have some days where I can't function at all. He is always there to support me: he takes over the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. when I can't. His unconditional love and support make me the luckiest girl ever. I could never express how thankful I am to him. Words just aren't enough. We met when I had my Flolan pump, and he wasn't even fazed by it! He is by far the best caregiver anyone could ask for because he does it out of love and never complains or holds it over my head. Thank you so much, Jason, you will never realize how much you mean to me and how much I love and appreciate you.
Shout out to my caregiver, my amazing husband Cory Trapp. He has been by my side from day one. He holds me while I cry, he allows me to scream when I am angry and he allows me to have my good days and my bad days without wavering in his love for me. He makes my meds when I just don’t feel up to it, and changes my dressing every week. What I would do without him, I don’t know. He has given me so much to live for and I love him with every ounce I have in me. He has always been an amazing husband and father to our children and now he is an amazing caregiver on top of it, a task he didn’t sign up for. I love you, babe, thank you for all you do for me; I couldn’t do it without you.
