New Lipgloss to Support PH Research
Elise Firestone Figure model, dancer and make-up artist, Elise Firestone, counts herself lucky that her PH hasn’t kept her from pursuing her dreams. In February, Elise introduced the latest product in her cosmetics line — a lipgloss, with 20% of the proceeds supporting PH research.
Elise was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension when she was 19 years old. She was spending the summer in Long Island visiting cousins and, in the course of just a few months, went from regular weight lifting and cardio workouts to being unable to walk up stairs or along the beach.
When she was first diagnosed, Elise was told she might not be able to exercise, but she responded well to an oral PH therapy and continued pursuing her dream of making a career from her life’s passions: beauty and fitness. Elise says, “Every goal I’ve ever had I’ve always tried to achieve. There’s no stopping me — whether I have this disease or not.”
Elise’s Pucker Up 4 A Cause lipgloss is, for her, a step toward achieving yet another dream — educating the world about pulmonary hypertension. “I know a lot of people who don’t really know about this disease, and there are people who do know and who need some inspiration in their lives,” says Elise about her commitment to sharing her story.
Elise has a word of advice for recently diagnosed PH patients: “When we read about PH, it can be scary and discouraging but have focus and stay positive. Surround yourself with things you love to do and focus on that.”
