CBS News Reveals Stem Cell Treatment Fraud on 60 Minutes

60 Minutes

A video segment, entitled “Stem Cell Fraud,” aired Jan. 8 2012, on 60 Minutes and speaks to the risks of medical interventions for which the science is not proven.

Dr. Duncan Stewart, Vice President of Research at the Ottawa Hospital and a member of the PHA Scientific Leadership Council, comments, “I think the main point that needs to be made is that stem cell therapies are unproven and should only be provided in the context of a valid clinical trial with full regulatory (FDA) approval and oversight. Anything less than this should be cause for concern. Certainly, any individual or organization that is trying to market this technology directly to patients should be considered suspect.”
