stanfordSTANFORD PH RESEARCHER RECEIVES DOD FUNDING

Each year, the Department of Defense (DOD) makes fewer than 30 diseases eligible for study in its Peer Review Medical Research Program (PRMRP). For fiscal year 2008 (FY08), researchers submitted 827 grant proposals representing 21 diseases, including 37 on PH. Dr. Peter Kao, a researcher from the Stanford School of Medicine, received funding for his PH research proposal.

The inclusion and funding of PH research in the PRMRP is a testament to the quality of work produced within the field. It illustrates the commitment of researchers like Dr. Kao to exploring the mechanisms of PH in order to improve patient quality of life and find a cure for PH. PHA also salutes the 36 additional researchers whose applications to the DOD focused on PH.

We look forward to working to ensure the direction of FY09 DOD research funding toward projects that impact our understanding of PH and bring us closer to a cure.
