INVITATION TO PHA'S ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL LUNCHEON IN SUPPORT OF PH RESEARCH
take action square logoPHA Congressional Luncheon
Members Room, Library of Congress
Wednesday, Nov. 18
12:00 p.m. ET

PHA's annual Congressional Luncheon is an easy way for Members of Congress and their staff to learn about pulmonary hypertension and the importance of funding PH research and education.

Most elected officials, however, need a little extra motivation to attend - an invitation from a constituent to show their attendance is important to someone in their district. This means that YOU are essential to getting your representative and two senators and their staff to the event.

You can help make this year's luncheon a success in three ways:
  • Invite your senators and representative
  • Spread the word to your friends and family
  • Attend the event, or ask friends and family in the D.C. area to attend

Get started on our Congressional Luncheon page or call Katie at 301-565-3004 x749.

UNITE WITH THE PH COMMUNITY ON THE PATH TO A CURE
Mount KilimanjaroIn February 2010, Drs. Ray Benza and Robert Frantz will reach the top of the continent of Africa when they ascend the 19,330-foot Mount Kilimanjaro. Unlike other climbers, however, they are scaling the mountain to raise awareness and funds for pulmonary hypertension.

BIRDIES, BIDS AND BARBECUE: BUILDING SUPPORT FOR PH RESEARCH
Golf tournament bannerAfter a night of torrential rain and tree-uprooting gusts of wind, Oct. 2 dawned bright and sunny for the CurePH Texas Legacy Golf Tournament. Aided by a volunteer staff of patients, caregivers and friends, more than 60 golfers enjoyed a glorious day at the Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound, Texas.  The festivities continued into the evening with auctions, raffles and a buffet dinner of Texas barbecue.

Jim Wilson, tournament director and husband of PH patient Debbie Wilson, is happy to report the event's successes will translate into vital support for PH research. Despite the challenges of securing sponsorship, the Wilsons' community stepped up to help make the tournament happen. "The support of family and friends is so important to any undertaking like this," Debbie Wilson said.

WHITE HOUSE TO COMBAT UNDEREMPLOYMENT OF AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES
PH patients are among 54 million Americans living with disabilities, a group for which finding work can be difficult. In observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October, President Obama announced last week that the federal government will work to reduce underemployment among people with disabilities.

The plans detailed in the White House press release include town hall meetings to share information and collect feedback about regulations proposed under the ADA Amendments Act.

SONS OF PH PHYSICIAN WRITE CHILDREN'S BOOK, DONATE PROCEEDS TO PHA
Ankoor and Abhinav Talwar, sixth- and seventh-graders at Herricks Middle School in New York, recently wrote a children's book, The Children's Garden, about the triumph of nature and innocence over one man's greed. They wrote the story to increase awareness about environmental issues among children.

The boys' father is Dr. Arunbah Talwar, who leads the New Hyde Park PH Support Group in New York. This connection to the PH community through their dad led to the decision to donate the proceeds from the sale of their book to PHA, as well as to Herricks Public Schools.
