Arizona’s 3rd Annual Cure PH Golf Tournament
The rain came pouring down in the pre-dawn hours causing committee members to wonder if the tournament would get rained out. However, by dawn, the rain had stopped. The day started out chilly but the sun came out and it turned into a marvelous day.
The tournament was held at McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale. The golfers enjoyed a new sponsorship this year. Each golfer received a Butthead golf club cover in the shape of a bear bottom or a horse’s backend along with the usual goodie bag and golf shirt from Antigua.
The tournament was followed by a fajita/taco buffet luncheon attended by the golfers and PH patients along with additional family and friends. Dr. Franz Rischard, a pulmonary hypertension specialist, spoke to us on the subject of pulmonary hypertension and treatment options.
The day wrapped up with a raffle, silent auction and merchandise sales. Overall, it helped us to raise important funds for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association for research and patient services. The day would not have been possible without the tireless help from the committee members (many of the committee members are PH patients): Lee Billington, Bill and Wendy Bockhorst, Marianne Curran, Mandy Kimbrough and Linda Wells. It also would not have been possible without the help from the PHA staff, especially Debbie Castro and Lauren Thiel.
In 2008, we are moving the golf tournament to November to coincide with Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month. We look forward to seeing you all there!
