Engage Volunteers

volunteers Much of the work of establishing an association can fall on the shoulders of whoever takes the initiative to begin it – likely you! As your association and ambitions grow, finding help will become even more important.

Most associations operate on a strictly volunteer basis for the first several years of operation before having paid staff members. When working with volunteers, you may face some challenges because the relationship is “non-binding;” volunteers have the right to work as much or as little as they are willing and able.

You can build enduring relationships with your volunteers by finding ways to demonstrate that the work they do is important and precious, and by making them feel a part of the organization and appreciated for their efforts. Identify key volunteers who are especially motivated to keep the organization going and keep them engaged.

Volunteers are the key to the start-up of any organization

The more volunteers you have, the more quickly your organization will be able to grow. Many hands make light work!

Try to involve your members in as many ways as possible

Many of them have talents they want to share and you can give them the opportunity to do so in service to the PH community in your country. As volunteers describe what they are interested in doing, make notes and contact them as needed.

Assign roles quickly and continue to recruit new volunteers

Allow volunteers to get others to help them with their roles to ensure that no one is overburdened. Some organizations have found that it is best to maintain small groups of volunteers and to outsource certain large projects, but this requires having a steady source of funding.
