Dunbar Ivy, MD
Section Head of Cardiology and Director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Program at the University of Colorado
Dunbar Ivy, MD is currently the Section Head of Pediatric Cardiology and the Director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Program at the University of Colorado. Dr. Ivy graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1988. He finished his Pediatric Residency at UCD in 1991 and later finished his Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology in 1994. He was promoted to Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at UCD in 1996 and he also joined the faculty at the Children’s Hospital. He was promoted to Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Program received the Children’s Choice award in 2001. In 2003, Dr. Ivy became Section Head of Pediatric Cardiology and was also named Selby’s Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cardiology. He was promoted to the rank of Professor of Pediatrics with tenure in 2007 and he received the Fern Primack Heart Who Cares award from the Little Hearts Luncheon Committee/TCH Foundation. Dr. Ivy has been named one of the Top Doctors in Denver for many years.
Dr. Ivy has helped run over 20 research trials and is an investigator in the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Specialized Centers of Clinically Oriented Research grant. He has published over 100 medical articles, primarily focusing on pulmonary hypertension in children. His particular areas of medical interest include treatment of pulmonary hypertension, and proteomics of pulmonary vascular disease.
Dr. Ivy has been a member of the Scientific Leadership Council since 2005. In addition to serving on PHA’s Board of Trustees he also serves on a number of other committees. He sits on over 15 Review Boards for various medical journals and is on the Editorial Board for the journal Congenital Heart Disease: Clinical Studies from Fetus to Adulthood.
