Puyallup Support Group May 2010 News Letter
Tuesday, June 01, 2010

Hi to all and I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Memorial Day weekend.

Andrew and I just hung around the house and I babysat for our neighbors two exotic birds fondly known as “the kids”. All of our kids and grand kids were out camping in the rain like good Washingtonians as they rightly come from a long line of “tree huggers”. I certainly hope the March/April weather is going to be over soon so that I can get back to working in my gardens. Boy do I have a lot of weeding to do.

Coming Up:

June 19th - Our first meeting at our new spot in the Fireside Room at the

United  Methodist Church - 1919 West Pioneer Ave, Puyallup, WA 98317

I’m very hopeful that our summer meeting will attract more attendance now that Farmer’s Market Parking will no longer be an issue. In June we are meeting in the Fireside Room. One of the conditions of our contract for using this space is that we both set up (chairs, tables, as well as the usual) and break down for our meetings so that their space is ready for the after services social time on Sundays. Anyone who can be at the church around 11:30 on our meeting Saturdays to help with set up and stay a little after our meeting to break down will be very much appreciated.

July, 17th - Ric Franzen is putting together an agenda for our group to discuss and share our reactions at initial diagnosis and how we are coping. More on this next month.

Group News:

Well, May is about over and we had a wonderful Spring Fling pot luck at Marianne and Hans’ home on the 22nd. The food was wonderful…you are all such great cooks…and it was very generous of Marianne and Hans to invite us into their warm and welcoming abode. Thank you both so much from all of us and we would love it if you would make this an annual tradition…hint, hint. We had 17 or 18 folks in attendance and there was still plenty of room.

Also, back in April, I want to thank Nathanson Partners for hosting the wonderful Phorum Dinner for all of the Western WA PH patients and caregivers. Dr Zamanian gave a terrific and eminently understandable presentation about the changes in our lungs and right heart and a comprehensive overview of current treatments. Our own Stephanie Harris from the UW Medical Center spoke about the care giving aspects of PH, and Kim Nunes, the Everett Support Group Leader, spoke about her own journey with PH. Over 40 attendees had numerous questions for the panel and tips about medication use to share. Thanks to everyone who attended.

So, everyone, think warm thoughts with lots of sunshine and I’ll see you all on June 19th.

Take care,

Charlotte McCabe
