Getting Creative with PH Awareness

Awareness ribbon shaped cookies, mugs, pins, quilts and jewelry are just a few of the many creative and crafty ways event organizers have helped raise PH awareness and funds during their PHA Special Event. Utilizing various shades of periwinkle, PHA printed materials and logos – people have created unique PH awareness items that can be used to promote their upcoming event or in a raffle, sale or auction during their event. Check out our slideshow of awareness items for inspiration and ideas.

When planning your event, think about different ways to incorporate PH facts, PHA printed materials, the PHA flame logo, or periwinkle into promotional materials for your event. Jack Stibbs, organizer of the The Woodlands CrawPHish Festival, attached our business card-sized “PH facts” and a tag promoting his event to plastic “Mardi Gras” beads that he distributed at a local event. This allowed him to advertise the festival and raise PH awareness in a very fun and unexpected way!

Another great idea came from Bonnie Chepovsky, event organizer of the “Especially for Pets” fundraiser. Bonnie placed the PHA Special Events logo on a bucket that she then attached to her dog’s harness. Throughout the fundraiser, he collected additional donations for PHA.

Many event organizers and attendees have used their own personal passion for baking, knitting, beading and other forms of crafting to design items for their local events. Carol Lindstrom, event organizer and avid quilter, created many beautiful quilts that were auctioned off at her own event and other PHA special events. If you are not crafty yourself, reach out to your family, friends, local support group or community group and see if they would be willing to create and donate items for your event. This is a great way to get people involved.

Many event organizers have had friends and family members knit periwinkle scarves, bake cookies and lollipops shaped into the PH Awareness ribbon, bead beautiful jewelry and more, providing great opportunities for additional fundraising at their event. At the New York Fun Walk, teenage volunteers used the current trend of feather hair extensions to raise PH awareness and funds. For a nominal fee, attendees could have a periwinkle feather extension weaved into their hair, with all proceeds benefitting PHA.

We really appreciate and applaud the creative efforts of our PH community. If you would like to share an innovative PH awareness item or idea used at your event, please send photos to us at
