Why are you a Support Line Volunteer?

After being unable to work as a teacher because of my pulmonary hypertension, I still had an inner sense that I had to contribute to the world. I was at a loss. I asked myself, “What will I do now?” I began looking into local volunteering, but with my physical health and family responsibilities I was unable to be consistent. Being a Support Line volunteer proved to be the best fit.

Did you ever have a memorable experience on the Support Line?

I once spoke with a girl from North Carolina who was diagnosed with an echocardiogram and was on Levaris. However the doctor did not give her a right heart catheter. He did not tell her about any treatments and told her transplant was the only option for people with PH. I was able to get her to find a doctor who has had PH patients. Finally, she did get a heart catheter, and she is now connected to the PH family. I definitely feel like I saved her life, and she is now well informed about PH.
